I cannot copy and paste my license code into the box - How to fix?
Posted by Mark Kabana on 19 March 2014 02:39 PM

Several users have reported an issue where they cannot copy and paste the license code into the license code text box when trying to activate Places Scout.

We have narrowed this issue down to the anti-virus software WebRootKit that for some reason interferes with copying and pasting the license code into Places Scout.

As a temporary quick fix, close Places Scout, temporarily disable WebRootKit anti-virus protection, open Places Scout, and you should be able to paste the license code into the box with no issues.

How To Permanently Fix This Issue

You'll want to follow these steps below to permanently fix this issue, as WebRootKit also blocks copying and pasting other data in Places Scout. Also note that adding PlacesScout.exe to the exception list in WebRootKit WILL NOT stop WebRootKitfrom blocking your paste attempts, so you must follow the steps below to fix this issue:

  1. Goto the 'Advanced Settings' menu in WebRootKit

  2. Click on the 'SHIELDS' tab

  3. Locate the 'Silently and automatically block untrusted access to user data' setting and UNCHECK this setting. See the screenshot below:

  4. After you uncheck that, the next time you attempt to paste into Places Scout, you will be prompted by WebRootKit to "Allow once, Allow always, or Block" to which you answer ALWAYS.

These above steps will permanently stop WebRootKit from blocking copy and paste attempts from Places Scout.
